Hi, I’m James. I helped a small round robot discover its emotions; now I spend my time turning noise into cool sounds—or the kind of scary deep wub-wubs that people need therapy for.

Location and work
For over 12 years, I have collaborated with creators, agencies, and filmmakers worldwide—ranging from independent passion projects to major international productions for AAA games, Hollywood studios, IMAX, and global streaming platforms.
His work has appeared in mainstream cinema, international festivals, television broadcast, IMAX screens and leading streaming services, supporting projects for some of the most respected studios and creative teams in the industry.
While based in Melbourne, James regularly travels for major projects and on-location production work, building long-term relationships with creatives across Australia, Europe, the UK and the US.
Alongside large-scale productions, he is equally passionate about supporting local musicians, emerging filmmakers and independent creators, and enjoys working at every scale — from modest self-funded projects to the biggest studio productions in the industry.
(And yes — some of his work has involved a galaxy far, far away, and a few upcoming HBO projects.) ‘
Gareth Edwards
Hi! James here,
When I’m not composing or designing sound, I teach guitar and piano, experiment with new creative hobbies, and can usually be found walking my dog through Melbourne’s parks.
Sonic and intermediary events:
-White Night – Ballarat 2024.–
Lightscape – Melbourne 2025.
-Lightscape – Melbourne 2026.
-VIVID Sydney 2026 – Details TBA – a very special 12 hour audio visual marathon.
Dark Mofo Hobart 2025 – personal show cancelled due to covid infection, hoping to return one day.
What else?
The Church Reverb Obsession: I spend an odd amount of my free time in empty churches. Not for the sermons—I’m just there for the acoustics. I volunteer to mix their live sound because every hall has some weird architectural quirk that you can’t replicate in a plugin. It’s the best way to learn how sound actually moves in a room (and I get to nerd out on old, dusty mixing consoles).. I spent many lunch times at high school learning to play their vintage pipe organ and recording acoustic duos and trios in the chapel space.
Parks & Papillons: If I’m not in the studio, I’m probably being dragged through a park by my dog, Yoda (he’s a Papillon with a lot of opinions). He’s technically my boss. I also still teach piano and guitar on the side—but after a failed attempt at a skating hobby during lockdown, he can often be seen either skating himself, or being escorted by his wrangler on his chosen mode of transportation.
If you have a project you care about, he’d love to hear about it, please contact me on here on my site.
